Tautog season will close Sept. 1 until Sept. 28. Puppy Drum, triggerfish and sea bass are still ready and waiting for the anglers. Flounder fishing is improving and there are croaker everywhere. The offshore tuna bite has slowed down but blue water anglers are still boating mahi mahi. We are confident that the tuna fishery will improve as the water temperature cools down.

Here are some of the reports we have received since last week:

At Massey's Landing, puppy drum and sheepshead are being caught in abundance, with fresh clams being the hot bait. Short tog are also being caught with an occasional keeper.

Croakers are being caught in the Shears by all the head boats and private boats heading to the De. Bay.

Rob Robbins caught pickerel at Burtons Pond on spinners.

A customer reported a boat next to him caught a mako, 3 bluefin and a dolphin on a temperature break at the Tea Cup.

HD Parsons called in while running in from the mouth of the De Bay to tell us he had a boat full of happy anglers on his Thelma Dale V head boat that finally had something to talk about other than throw back flounder. His anglers just loaded up on croaker. He also said that Capt Ricky on the Angler was headed in early too with the same results of croaker just by the Lighthouse at the Outer Wall. The high angler boated 75 croaker.

HD also reported that he did very good on tile fish out in the deep this last weekend and that they were also bringing big sea bass up from 300 feet deep.

Capt. Ted of Angler's Fishing Center reported catching coolers full of big croaker. He also reported small bluefish and weakfish mixed in.

Robb Larrick, Jim Cramer and Bill Weiss fished the beach at Gordons Pond Crossing scoring an occasional blue on whole mullet rigs and top and bottom rigs. They also caught small sand sharks and skates.

Nick Weist checked in with a 3.5 lb triggerfish caught on sand fleas at the Inner Wall.
