Bay Flat's Lodge Fishing Report 8/20/08

The south shoreline of Matagorda Island down towards Mesquite Bay gave up trout to 3 lbs for waders working sand & grass. Small spook JR. top water lures tossed in the middle of roaming mullet proved best. Red fish were scattered due to high tides. Before the rain, our focus was pointed towards fresh water due to the increased salinity levels in San Antonio Bay. Areas of fresh water that normally hold only reds have now provided scores of trout in numbers we've not seen in several seasons.Wednesday & Thursday evenings we welcome 15-guest and customers with the Blair J. Company for a 5-boat session on Thursday & Friday. Also Clay P. and guest will be arriving to fish Friday. Reports to come.

OYSTER SHELL SLOWING DOWN "NOT FOR LONG"

Ones early and often shell bite we seen all summer suddenly shut down and these trout moved towards fresher water. The lack of rain and fresh water run off that we've seen this summer may be the reason we've caught trout in areas that normally hold only fresh water. With the recent downpours of rain, look for the "fresh water" trout to move back towards the oyster shell and away from all the fresh water.
