Saturday July 12
Night Striped Bass
Bass fishing tonight saw good action again up at "The Race". We had a decent number of stripers, as well as a healthy mix of beautiful blues (some gorillaz). It was slack tide when we got there, but still managed to pick some bass during it. After the tide started moving, the action became steady. Phil Rabito from Middle Island NY took the pool with a 25.8lbs striper.
Half Day Fluke Fishing PM
Captain Steven Jr, reports phenomenal fluke fishing this afternoon! There were a total of 28 keepers on the boat, with almost every keeper being over 5lbs, and 7 fish over the 6lbs mark. The boat had steady action and also a dozen seabass came up in the mix. Steven Galletta had his limit with one of his keepers weighing in at 6.5lbs, and another one at 7.4lbs. The pool winner was Don Brooks of Lindenhurst NY with a 7.9lbs fluke.
Full Day Porgies & Sea Bass
Another fine day of porgy fishing on the Viking Star reports mate Eric B. There was more of a mix of sizes today, although there were still plenty of JUMBO porgies, including Ron Washington who had a true VIKING JUMBO porgy of 4.9lbs in addition to his limit of scup and a few keeper seabass for everyone. Second place went to Chris Ramirez of Queens with a 4.2lbs fluke, of which there were also a few decent size on the boat.
Full Day Block Island Fluke Fishing
Capt Carl reports that full day fluke fishing at Block Island was great today. We saw very promising results that indicate the signs of another fantastic season this year! Fishing in the morning was slow without any tide but we still caught a few. As soon as we started drifting however action became Red Hot!! Many keepers were being netted with a lot of action in between. Many people caught their limits including Richard Kwon of New Jersey who had a fluke weighing in at 6.8lbs!! All the fish caught were very fat anf healthy and although we didn't catch any super jumbos we had a lot of fish over 5lbs and the average size was around 4lbs!
Half Day Fluke AM
Capt Steven reports very good fishing on the morning fluke trip. We had a good number of keepers and tons of throwbacks. First place pool was won by Aggie Pregrosi from Glen Cove with a 4.8lbs fluke and second place went to Heather Stephenson of Montauk with a 4.6lbs fluke. Close one!
