Back in the bay we are starting to see some small croakers and blues along with some undersized flounder. The best flounder fishing is out at B Buoy (8.4 miles dues east of the Inlet).Hazy hot and humid here. A chance of thunderstorms every day. As a matter of fact, we are having one right now. Pretty good summer time fishing to report.
The big news is that some nice sheepshead have moved into the Indian River Inlet according to the toggers. This is a sure sign that warm southern water is here. Sheepshead a excellent eating and are good fighters. They like live sand fleas. Look for black drum in the mix along the rocks any day.
Smilin' Petie Hesson, of Spring City, PA, posted an 11 pound 8oz sheepehead. Lynn Ceritano, of Royersford PA, landed a 8 pound 2 oz sheepshead.
The best striped bass fishing in the Inlet is at night. As evidenced by Bob Sax' (Mount Laurel NJ) 25 pounder. The heat and boat traffic have the stripers deep during the day. You'll need live spot on the bottom to get them while the sun shines. Otherwise, use a live eel, rigged eel or a dark bucktail/plug from the rockpile. Fish the incoming tide for best results
Small kingish, croakers, snad perch and blues on the beach. The kings are in tight to the beach while the blues are hanging about 10-20 yards out from the first break. Some fresh river mullet are starting to become available. These are the bigger black back mullet - not fingers. Use bloods - fake or real - for the kings. Wade Workman, of Seaford, is the latest to weigh in a one pound kingfish.
Further offshore, we ahave a good bluefin tuna bite in Masseys Canyon. Yellowfin and gaffer dolphin are further out in the Baltimore Canyon.
