Capt. Ray reported last night's Striper fishing started hot but then cooled off after the tide quit. Nevertheless the first fish boated was well over 30lbs and a few other big Bass were boated before the bite and tide quit. Anglers also tangled with some large ocean blues to nearly 10lbs. Next Striper trip is scheduled for this evening at 7pm aboard the Lady Frances.
Capt. Don reported this morning's 1/2 am was very good with a nice slug of keeper fluke to 7lbs plus some nice size sea bass and lots of big scup to 2lbs. .A lot of fluke in the 4 to 5.5lb range. Half day am trips sail every day at 8am and the fishing has been on quite a streak along the beach. Capt. Don reports this recent run of fluking is among the best he has seen in recent years on the half day boat.
GET READY FOR FLUKEMAINIA ON THE BEACH!!!!!
Capt. Mike reported that today's fishing on the 8am full day boat along Rhode Island's scenic south shore beaches was among some of the finest ever witnessed by both Capt., crew and this angler. Talk about some size today! The light group of anglers aboard really got to experience some exceptional fishing. The whole day was great but the morning featured a bite of jumbo fluke second to none. Seventy- six year young Jeanne from Danielson, Ct had the kind of day most fluke fishermen can only dream about as the first two of her fluke which hit the deck were slabs of 9 and 7.75lbs!!! Jeanne has been a regular customer for years and is one of the finest, most pleasant individuals I have had the good fortune of meeting. Way to go Jeanne!! Angler hi lights also include but were not limited to the following: Mr. Pak had his limit of jumbo fluke in the 4 to 7lb range and took pool honors for the day out of a catch of 30 fish while Jim O'grady had his limit of mostly jumbo fluke as well with at least 5 of his fish over 4lbs with the biggest around 6lbs Jim caught 30 fish for the day.. June from Eastern Ct who comes with aforementioned angler Jeanne also had a great day catching 6 keepers to 5lbs. 8am regular customer Nick from lower Ct had 4 nice keepers to 4lbs plus a 3lb jumbo sea bass. Bill and Dave from Littlefield, Ct had a fine catch of 9 keeper fluke including four jumbos from 4 to 6.5lbs. Another angler only had three keepers today out of a catch of 42 fish but the fellow's keepers were 7, 6.5 and 5.25lbs respectively. It was an incredible day weather wise as well and with the spectacular fishing today was truly a day to remember along the beach.
GET READY FOR FLUKEMANIA ON THE 7AM BOAT!!!
Capt. Rich reported an outstanding day of fluke fishing on the 7am full day Jumbo Fluke/Seabass boat. A good crowd of anglers brought nearly 120 keeper fluke to the net today with at least 50 of them jumbos of 4lbs or better and 5 to 6lb fish commonplace! Capt. Kyle commented it was the most big fish he has seen yet this year on the 7am boat. The fish were rather spread out among the anglers with most anglers leaving with several nice keepers apiece. There were a couple limits. Congrats to Irene Brown on her 8.3lb pool winning slab!! This fish just narrowly beat out the 8.2 lb runner up! Well done to 88 year young George Meadows who caught a nice jumbo fluke today as well! It was a nice pick all throughout the day today and some shorts also kept the rods bent and anglers busy. Normal bait rigs and tandem bait rigs far out produced any other method today. Just a few nice sea bass with the largest a fine humpback of nearly 4lbs. No platter size scup today like on yesterday's outing. The weather was great and the fishing is really about as good as it gets! Next 7am boat is the Gail Frances sailing tomorrow morning.
Capt. Mike reported a very good 1/2 pm trip. The bite started a bit soft but the last drift of the night was one to remember! Again lots of jumbo fluke in the 4 to 6lb range with the largest around 7lbs. Quite a few shorts kept the rods bent throughout the evening as well. A few nice sea bass thrown in for good measure as well. Dale from Berlin,Ct had 4 nice keepers to nearly 7lbs while another angler had 5 keepers including 4 jumbos in the 4 to 6lb range and a nice size sea bass. Two gentlemen from New York had several nice fish to 5lbs to take home.
Capt. Don reported another excellent day of Whale Watching with both Finbacks and Meinke Whales sighted. Again the ocean was alive with loads of bait and birds worker over the bait. So far this has been a very exciting start to the Whale Watch season. For bird enthusiasts, the selection of offshore sea birds has been first rate as Capt. Don explained there have been all types of sheerwaters including the Marx, Graders, Corys and Arctic Terns and the rare South Polar Skua!!! Next Whale boat sails tomorrow afternoon at 1pm.
