It is hot out there and the fishing is good. There is an excellent striper bite in the Indian River Inlet.
The nightime is the right time to fish the Inlet for big stripers. The last 3 hours of the incoming tide is good just about everywhere in the Inlet while the end of the north rockpile is good during the first hour or so of the outgoing tide. Live els, rigged eels, black bucktails and dark colored swim shads are the best baits.
Myron Hughes, of Osceola Mills, PA, is the latest to post a citation striper at 22 pounds 4 ounces. Ed Reehill, of Dewey Beach had a 21 pounder and Joe McMahon of Homer City PA, had a 22 pound 10oz striper.
A couple of trout to report from the Inlet as well. Aaron Brammer, of Allentown PA, land a 9lb 12 ounce tiderunner over the weekend.
Blue fish have been hitting the Inlet on the daytime incoming tides. These swimming stomachs with teeth will hit anything you want to throw at them.
Surf fishing is still plagued by colder than usual water temperatures. Mostly sharks to report with the occasional bluefish and kingfish in the mix.
Notice to Anglers: Effective May 11 the minimum size for flounder increased from 18 inches to 19.5 inches. The daily limit remains at 4 fish.
We are still carrying live green crabs even though the Delaware tautog season is closed. Live sand fleas are available as well. Many people are buying crabs (and lead because we are cheaper - 25 cents an ounce versus 30 cents an ounce plus tax) here on the way to Ocean City. The current limits in OC are two fish at 14 inches.
Notice to Anglers: Effective May 12 Tautog season will be closed in Delaware waters through June 30.
Shark fishing improved greatly over the weekend. We heard the threshers started biting. Capt Tom Murphy on the MEGA-BITE emailed that he found 63 degree water on the Chickenbone and a good shark bite. His party released nine blue sharks/duskies and boated one mako.
