INDIAN RIVER INLET FISHING REPORT
June 16th, 2008

What a difference a week makes. Rising water temperatures are good news and bad news for fishing in the area
What had been a hot striper bite in the Indian River Inlet has slowed down a bit. The warmer water that finally arrived courtesy of east winds last week negatively impacted fishing in the Inlet. Even the bluefish bite slowed down considerably.
Only one citation striper has been posted in recent days. Zach Bedell, of Frankford DE, was the lucky angler posting a 24 pound 7 ounce rockfish. Also of note, is an 18 pound 12 ounce striper landed by Bob Engle of Annville PA.
With hot summer weather and increased boat traffic it is time to start fishing at night for stripers. Live eels, rigged eels, black bucktails and dark colored storm lures will be the best baits. We suggest fishing the last few hours of the incoming tide and the first hour of so of the outgoing.
From the good news department, water temps on the beach are approaching 70 degrees after a month of hovering around 63 degrees as a result of westerly winds. This has improved the kingfish bite tremendously.
Live bloodworms and the artificial bloodworms are the best kingfish baits. Small chunks of fresh bunker are good too.
Warmer water inshore means the bigger flounder will start to move offshore to cooler areas. B Buoy should be a good place to start your search for doormat flounder. A few small seabass in the mix out there as well.
We are still carrying live green crabs even though the Delaware tautog season is closed through the end of June. Live sand fleas are available as well. Many people are buying crabs (and lead because we are cheaper - 25 cents an ounce versus 30 cents an ounce plus tax) here on the way to Ocean City. The current limits in OC are two fish at 14 inches. Delaware waters will reopen for tautog on July 1.
Warmer water offshore will help shark fishing and should bring the tuna into range as well. Hope you can afford the fuel!!!

Fishing License Info
The new license requirement is in effect as of the first of the year. A license is now required for saltwater fishing in Delaware waters. You can get your license here at Old Inlet. Delaware law requires your social security number to get a license. We CANNOT issue the license without it. A passport or work/education visa can be used in leiu of a SSN for foreign born anglers. Also, if you are getting a boat license you will need to show your current boat registration.
You can find out more about the license requirements on the DE Fish and Wildlife website:
