Chincoteague Fishing Report

Travis with the smallest fish he has ever caught a 5 inch seabass off the dock in the Assateague Channel.Uncle Jim caught this ray fishing off the pier using but bait.
Another beautiful day hot and sunny on the island. We had more reports of kingfish off the surf. If you can hit the outer bar you will have a lot more action out there, as we found out this morning. It varies at times, but being able to get the distance can be the difference from catching and not catching fish. I talked to a few of the charter boat captains who continue to do well with kingfish and flounder. The spades are still biting well on the wrecks and tautog season opens back up on Thursday. Thursday is going to be a busy day there is going to be a rocket launch http://www.chincoteaguereports.com/my_weblog/2008/06/rocket-launches-scheduled-for-june.html
click on the link above it shows where you can not go with a boat during the launch. Also this Thursday morning VMRC has arranged for a barge load(40-50) of subway cars from NY to be deployed at the blackfish banks reef site. This is very good for fishing.( Thanks Capt. Mike for that information.) In crabbing news people are still catching plenty. Randy Birch taught me something today that male blue crabs have blue pinchers and the females have red pinchers. He also told me a couple of jokes which I can not put on the site. That is going to do it for tonight. Jimmy
