BILL KELLY, WALT THOMPSON & DON YELTON.. THIS SURE BEATS WORKING!!!

Man, it's hot! We wanted it - well, we got it!!! It's almost too hot to fish! But the heat didn't keep people off the water this weekend as they were hoping for a nice breeze to cool 'em down. Some may have found that but most found kingfish, shark and a few flounder. Like those pictured above caught at Queen Sound using minnow and squid and a flounder bottom rig. Bill Kelly, Walt Thompson and Don Yelton fish a lot but never allow me to get a picture of them. Finally, I guilt-tripped them for this nice shot.

Inshore fishing was like a scavenger hunt.. Moving EVERYWHERE to find a bite. But when you hit the "honey-hole", good things happened. Like the 7lb 12oz HUGE flounder brought in from the south side of Queen Sound bridge. It was 27" long and caught on smelts! Stacey Tubbs, pictured earlier in the weekend report, also had five more flounder on the boat while fishing with family and friends. Many other respectable catches were found in the main channel mostly in front of the private fishing piers between Bunting and Beebe Roads. The kingfish/whiting were hitting in the Canal toward the Inlet and some in the Assateague Channel. Four Mouths came back alive after much of the seaweed moved out. Some 20 - 24" flatties gave it up near Markers 7 to 11, at the split of the Four Mouths. The surf was heated as well; kingfish being the main catch on shrimp. Well, I guess the main catch has been the dogfish and rays. But, PATIENCE is what fishing is all about - try long enough and as the print on one of the forty different design T-Shirts that we carry says…. "Good Things Come To Those Who Bait!"

Offshore is sizzling with shark - brown, blue and Mako. Two Mako's were weighted in over the weekend brought in from the Parking Lot and the Lumpy Bottom. Bait used was Mackeral Chum for one and Bunker Chum and Menhaden Milk for the other. Still no reports of any bluefish being sighted offshore. With the waters heating up in the ocean, we should start seeing some indication of tuna - BLUEFIN TUNA! Heard of some Bullhead Dolphin being caught near the 26 Mile Hill and a few Yellowfin. It's about to go crazy - or at least that's what we are praying to happen.

We've got a great fishing wind tomorrow out of the west (you know it - west is best!) with winds only at 5 - 10 knots, this will change up late in the afternoon to a south wind at 10. Again a good fishing wind (wind out of the south, blows the hook in the fishes mouth). High tide occurs at 7:52AM and Low at 1:42PM. Get out on the water between 11 and 2, that's when the feeding frenzy will turn on… That's when the heat's gonna turn on, too. Be prepared - wide brim hat, sun block and plenty of fluids. Come by and check out our Panama Jack hats - not only will you look cool but they provide such protection and are light weight allowing air to penetrate and keep you cool.

Last, the seas are only going to be at 2 feet and the wrecks are calling you to come and slam those sea bass AND the Spades (as in spadefish) have been reported to begin to make an appearance. With the increasing water temps - everything is gonna go crazy - except those coveted flounder. They will be kissing us good-bye in search of cooler waters. That's the weekend wrap - up. Summer has arrived - get out there and live it.

A FINE CATCH OF KINGFISH!!!

Zachery Schoeberle of Chincoteague shows off a nice catch of kingfish that was caught just off of Assateague this morning. He went fishing with his dad, Capt. Brett. I suppose Dad has Zach on the "fast-track" to someday fill his shoes, part time anyway, as a captain.
