HUMP DAY REPORT!!!
What beautiful weather we've had. Great for the beach & outdoor activities. The few wind gusts of the early part of the week was a little too much for a perfect drift but that just puts a little more challenge in your day of fishing! Flounder are still out there just about everywhere although more "shorties" are being caught than "keepers". This is a good indication the flounder are beginning their migration to cooler waters in the north. But as one fishery leaves, another usually comes in. In this case, croaker should be making an major appearance any day now. Anglers have been reporting they are pulling a few up which means soon they will be EVERYWHERE! Thank God for that! The kingfish and the croaker keep anglers, young and old, happy and busy. Both are tasty little fish - both boney but we HAVE HAD some nice respectable sized ones in previous years. As far as the croaker, whether novice or seasoned, just about anyone can catch them. Most times, a double hitter. The croaker thrills kids because when they reach the surface, they make a croaking/barking sound.

The "Hot Spots" for fishing is just about anywhere you drop a line. You will catch fish, although flounder may be undersized, be patient and soon you'll get a keeper or two. Queen Sound, north of that bridge, also, on the south side; the most catches have been in front of Daisey's Dockside back and forth from the USCG base; also the Chincoteague Channel in front of Capt. Bob's Marina, on both sides of the sandbar - south to Marker 17. Croaker have been landed in the Channel as well; the kingfish stay pretty much in the Canal following the buoys right out past the Inlet.

For you offshore anglers, a bit of good news.. within the next few days, the Virginia Marine Resource Commission will be dropping approximately 40 - 50 subway cars about 5 - 6 miles north of the Inlet, at a location known as Blackfish Banks. This is the area where previous box cars were dropped about 5 years ago and has turned into a major fishing artifical reef. This will enhance this reef even more - AND, if the previous drop can be an indicator - the new cars will start attracting fish within the year. For those unfamiliar with this type of procedure, the cars must be thoroughly overhauled and cleaned to meet strict EPA & DEQ requirements as well as the State of Virginia. Basically, IT'S A GOOD THING!!!

For those wanting to go tuna fishing (or near the Parking lot/Lumpy Bottom) tomorrow, NASA has scheduled a launch and the co-ordinates are as follows:

1. 37 50 18N 75 28 52.2W

2. 37 50 27N 75 22 45W

3. 37 47 35.4N 75 10 49.8W

4. 37 42 18.6N 75 13 40.2W

5. 37 46 27.6N 75 24 49.8W

6. 37 49 50.4N 75 29 18.6W

The launch PLUS we are suppose to get some wind factors after lunch, winds up to 20 knots, might be two real good reasons to rethink your trip. For additional info on the NASA launches you can call 757.824.2050. If you are in the ocean, you can monitor marine channel 12 or channel 19 is the back up channel. The scheduled time is 3:45PM until 8:00PM. If inclement weather delays tomorrow's activity, the backup days are June 28 & June 29, at 11:45Am until 8:00 PM.

Think that's it for tonight! Talk at ya later.

CAPT. BRETT & THE STRAYTON FAMILY!

The Strayton's, from Mt. Airy, MD, caught this slew of kingfish today using squid. They were fishing in the Channel in about 15' of water. Nice catch - wouldn't want to do all that cleaning, though!! More power to ya!

MATHEW AND SEAN MAGNER - FUTURE BILL DANCE CANDIDATES!!

These kids are good fishermen. Mathew and Sean, from Pasadena, MD, found these beauties in Queen Sound in about 20' of Water. They were using a minnow on a tandam rig. You should check out our minnows - man, they are bigger than Calcutta flashfoil bunkers!!! I cannot believe the size of them - they almost make Smelt look like guppies!!!

HER VERY FIRST FLOUNDER!!

Karen, from Ellicott City, MD caught her first flattie (19")today with Capt. Charlie on the Island Queen. With Karen was (not pictured) Russell, Brian and Ellen - all had a great time bringing in about 20 kingfish ranging from 12 - 14", with about 14 throwback flounder and 50 kingfish.

MAKING FISHING MEMORIES!

Tommy, aka B'Day Man, his son Ahmad, Uncle Coops (a whopping 84 yrs) & Robert enjoyed slaughtering kingfish with Capt. Charlie today in the Inlet. B'Day Man caught about 50 at least. Altogether they had over 100 in the cooler and 50 throwbacks. Says Capt. Charlie "Flesh Color FishBites is the ticket to landing a lot of these little fighters, any flavor seem to work!"

NOW THAT'S A MESS OF GOOD EATTING!!!
