Current Fishing Conditions for California

Coastal Fishing: Good calico bass fishing is happening in the L. J. and Pt. Loma kelp beds. Thresher shark fishing is still good in L. J. and Carlsbad canyons, but fish are starting to move up the line out of Oceanside and Dana Point. Bait-o-matic's are the best bet right now, with purple and black/pink the best colors. Not much yellowtail action has been seen in the last week, they are still here, but no volume yet.

San Clemete/Catalina Island

Catalina is hit or miss with some yellowtail showing on front side, squid is for sale outside Avalon. Just call on Channel 11.

SCI had a real good snap of sea bass last week with fish up to 50 pounds, but the Navy shut down the area. Look for the next moon phase to bring another good bite.

There is world class bonita fishing up and down the coast with fish to 12 pounds. Jet heads, Chrome iron, and small diving plugs are the best. Bleed them and ice them down quickly for good table fare.

We just need the water to come up a couple of degrees. When it does, hold-on things are going to SNAP!
