Happy Mother's Day!!! Take your mom fishing. Hope everyone is getting ready for the fishing season. At the marina the boats are slowly going back into the water and there are more boats showing up in the inlet and back bays.
The stripers have been hitting hard in the inlet on the incoming tide at night. Some report seeing about 10 people catching their limits. They tell me they are using bombers or stretch 25's. I weighed in one that was 20 lbs. There also have been reports of some tog, flounder (many short) and blue fish.
Flounder are being caught in the back bay around Quillen's Point. One fisherman reported catching his limit with 2 of the fish measuring over 20". The popular bait for catching the flatties are live minnows with a piece of squid.
The sea bass are starting to show up on the inshore wrecks. Doc Peoples, from the Spectacle, went fishing on Monday and had a nice catch with fish weighing in at 2-3lbs. The sea bass are wanting sand fleas.
The head boat Capt. Bob II has been fishing full days on the week-ends for tog. They have had several trips when they have limited out. Today will be the last day of our full day trips we will begin running 1/2 day trips daily on May 16th.
There have been some skate, sharks, blue fish and an occasional striper being taken on the beach. Use finger mullet or a cut bait for the blues. Use a buck tail and live or artificial blood worms.
There was a 125.2lb mako shark caught by Free Spool on April 25th. The were fishing at the Elephants Trunk. Chumming the water with Hook 'em & Cook 'em's fresh ground bunker chum and doubling up whole mackerel.
Beginning Monday, May 12th, the tog season is closed until June 30th. And the new flounder regulations go into effect. The new size limit is 19.5" at 4 per person.
Don't forget to get your fishing license! Everyone that fishes in Delaware waters to 3 miles out is required to have a fishing license. If you are fishing outside of the 3 miles you don't need one.
