Well, this week has been an up and down week as the blues are in and the blues are out. If you catch a good day, you'll beat up the mid-size gators.
The flounder are starting to get out of here, probably with some pressure from the bluefish. There are a few reports of flounder in Meyers hole, the last stop before splitsville. They are still catching flounder north of us, but they report flounder moving out slowly as well.
The blackfish are showing on the south jetty, but you have to act fast, as the season is closed May through July this year. It's a shame, but the biologists say this change targets the spawning season. I guess it's the right thing to do in the long run, but it sure doesn't help the head boats make money.
By the way, the L.B.I. Simply bassin' tournament starts next weekend on May 3rd, so get ready. They changed the date to accommodate an early run of decent bass, should it happen by next week. I think it will.
The shop is loaded for the tourney, and the bunker and clams will be available prior to the start of the spring derby.
And our beach watcher, Ol' moontide says that the tides are a little messed up this weekend, with high tide being at midnight and noon. I tend to agree, but that midnight fishin' can really produce! And the beach is all yours at that hour. Ol' moontide catches fish though, so he probably has something there.
Weakfish are showing up in the bay slow but sure, and they have some size to them. You have to fish hard for them to score, and again, after dark when things quiet down is your best bet, especially with the midnight tide this weekend. So let's all hit it, and bring some serious fish to the scales this week! Good luck and as always, great fishing.
