Saturday we had Dwight, Sharron, Brad, Dawn and Adam from Hickory, NC. They fished with us last year as well.
Last year when we fished with them we only caught a couple Tunas and Mahi's. I must admit I had an off day. In fact it was the worst day ever. I made mistake after mistake. I was surprised they came back.
So, I had a lot of making up to do.
We had a nice ride out in the morning. Started fishing about 7:15.
First fish was a Wahoo on the Bridge pole. After that we picked at the Mahi's here and there. Fishing in the morning was kinda slow and scattered for us.
Captain Brian call me up to the bridge and told me we were heading offshore to look for a break where he thought the gaffers might be. Around 11:00 we made it out to the change he was talking about. Almost instantly we started catching the gaffers. Mostly 1 at a time, but they were a nice class of fish.
We had a nide left long rigger bite and Brad was up. He jumped in the chair and started cranking. About 10 minutes later we put a 48lb Mahi in the box. He had a head on him like a 5 gallon bucket and must have been every bit of 5 feet long.
Dwight caught 1 that was 37 lbs and Sharron caught 1 that was 36 lbs.
The rest of them were 10-25 lbs with 1 or 2 flip flops.
We ended up with 18 Mahi and 3 Wahoo's
Needless to say, they were happy and they will be back next year for some more.
I must say…Pretty work to Captain Brian on finding the fish as he always does. You are the man…THE BEAST!!
