INDIAN RIVER INLET FISHING REPORT
April 28th, 2008

Two important changes in fishing regulations to cover.

  • Effective May 12 Tautog season will be closed in Delaware water through June 30.
  • Effective May 11 the minimum size for flounder increases to 19.5" The daily limit remains at 4 fish with no closed season.

Bluefish up to 20 inches reported on the beach along with a few kingfish. Whole frozen finger mullet and live bloodworms are popular baits. With the bad weather early this week it is likely that fresh bunker will not be available until the weekend. We'll keep you posted.
Still just picking at the stripers in the Indian River Inlet. Bucktails and swim shads have been the most effective. Incoming tide has been a little better than the outgoing tide.
Early season flounder fishing has been good in the Indian River Bay. The south shore slough back toward the VFW has been the hot drift. Carol Marole, Ocean View, weighed a 7lb 2oz flounder over the weekend.
Tautog fishing is good along the rocks. Live green crabs are the best bait. Live sand fleas are not yet available but should be in within the next two weeks.

Fishing License Info

The new license requirement is in effect as of the first of the year. A license is now required for saltwater fishing in Delaware waters. You can get your license here at Old Inlet. Delaware law requires your social security number to get a license. We CANNOT issue the license without it. A passport or work/education visa can be used in leiu of a SSN for foreign born anglers. Also, if you are getting a boat license you will need to show your current boat registration.
You can find out more about the license requirements on the DE Fish and Wildlife website:

http://www.fw.delaware.gov/Fisheries/Fishing+license+FAQs.htm (you will need to copy and paste this link)
One glitch in the new license has been that the boat decals have been found to be defective. New decals will be issued to all license holders by the state. Do not stick the current decals on your boat. DNREC has said to just keep them in the boat with your other documentation.
