Wife and girls were out of town so my Son and two of his friends went fishing Sat. It was a fun adventure. This was the first rockfish trip for me this spring and I had a lot of cobwebs to work out. My son did ok steering the boat while i working the pit. It would have been a lot more productive with another fisherman either running the boat or helping with the tackle. Oh well. We did fine and had a great day.
Got a late start and called a friend (lets get phishy) who was fishing the Colonial Beach Tourn. He ended up winning. He confirmed earlier intel (thanks sea King) so we did not have to go far. Got one planer out of the bottom of the boat and quickly remembered how hard those big triple board suckers pull! a loose large snap swivel was loose in the spool and kept smacking my knuckle as the board went out. Through the pain i forgot to grab the loose end and out went the planer by itself…. great start. took the helm back and circled around. Attached the line to the hard top and started setting out lines. Took awhile to deploy 12 lines while keeping an eye out for other boats and giving course correction orders. Stopped at 12 because that was all i could handle by myself and 3 12 year olds. Great marks on the sonar , but only one knockdown. Something was wrong… too deep. Tackle is not perfectly re organized and i had too much Fall tackle out. Started re rigging and deploying while keeping the boys entertained and not running over anyone. They had fun going through my old cd's down below.
Discovered i had no white spring rigs which was the color of success for Sat. Oh well, we ended up catching 3. Kept one 37" so the boys could taste fresh rock. She was full of row.
Could not get the Starboard eng restarted! feels electrical? oh well, another boat expense.
