"Bass are on the move"

Well, outside on the beach there is plenty going on these days. The bass are still a little small in size, but there are a lot of them and the keeper ratio seems to be about 5 to 1 right now. Bob Braack had 6 bass on Saturday morning fishing alone, with a 31 inch fish at 14 lbs. The fish had a whole bunker about 8 inches long in his belly, so there has to be bunker around, with some anglers reporting that their milling around in the back bay. This can only be an indication that fish will start moving inside soon.
The surf is starting to see regular catches of mid-size blue fish, and I saw several anglers beaching skates over the weekend, so if the water temps rise a degree or 2 more, we'll start to see steady action every day.
According to some of the boaters out there, slammer weakfish are up and down the beach outside, and guys are starting to report some 10 to 12 lb. fish. I personally have only seen 1 weak weighed in this weekend, but it was a hefty 15 lb. 8 oz. fish. This is a sign that the big boys are there, but apparently the successful anglers are either releasing or not weighing in big weakfish.
As for the flounder, certain guys keep picking away at them and are catching fish. Don't count the flounder fishing out yet, because a lot of the flounder-pounders I've talked to still believe there are going to be a few good days yet to be had. Basil, Nick, and Josh have the store stocked with clams, bunker, blood and sand worms, and crabs for you blackfish chasers. They also have a full stock of clam chum for everyone to get back out there and hit up on those winter flatties. I've also heard that the white perch anglers are starting to catch some nice perch. They're good eating, and a lot of fun to catch with the kids, as once you find them, its non-stop action. So that's what's going down this week, and I hope to see more boats in the bay and the inlets this weekend. If you find time to go, you won't be disappointed, even if you find some blues to hook up on. Good luck and great fishing.
