More Rod Choices

Spinning reels and rods are being used very effectively. The new rods from JIGGING MASTER, and OTI are all good choices for bigger fish and serious jiggers. These are again very short, some 4 feet and most around 5 to 5-1/2 feet. They have thesame parabolic bend and action as the conventional rods, and are used in the same style as the conventional rods- short jerks and cranking , using the same jigs

The spinning reels are also very select, like the Shimano Stella 20000, Diawia 6500, Accurate TwinSpin 30. I will be looking for more spinning reels to try in the near future. But again with the weight and drag , you will want to look for a lightweight reel with enough SMOOTH drag and line capacity to catch your targeted species.

With the new season getting close. It is time to think about getting a few of the needed items to make your trip a success

  • Having a good set of jigging gloves will help with long days jigging and fighting fish
  • A small gimbal harness is helpful
  • A good pair of split ring pliers is also needed when changing lures
  • PE jigging line is VERY important
  • A good selection of jigs color and sizes
  • A few extra pre-tied rigs to save time
  • Finally, if available, a container of fresh water to store used jigs to keep the saltwater from them till you can clean up

I hope this helped a few people get a little better idea of what a serious jigging outfit is all about Please let me know if and how I can help your jigging, I am always willing to teach and show guys what is avail to them- just ask!
