Step 1: Remove the ring holding the hair in place.
Step 2: Remove the thread they used to wrap the hair and hold it in place. Once you have that done, the hair will fall off.
Step 3: Now you're ready to tie on your new hair, tie it on just like a normal sea witch. One important thing to remember is when you make your wraps with your thread, waxed thread, mono or whatever you prefer, be absolutely sure you wrap it tightly and go up to the bottom of the outer shell of the head! The bottom of the outer shell is where the chrome stops as seen in the photo above.
The importance of that tight and high wrap, up against the head shell, is to give your hair a nice sharp bend.
You want the finished lure to have a flowing rounded flair shape to it. It should look like this.
If you like to add Mylar or Flashabou to your head, double-sided tape works very well. It's almost like scotch tape, but it's about 1/8-inch wide and is sticky on both sides. Doing this before tying makes it easy to deal with as you don't have to hold the Mylar and the hair at the same time. What I do is cut a piece of the double-sided lure tape and peel one side off. I lay the exposed side up on the table. I then cut my Mylar and lay it on the tape. Once I have the amount I am going to use on the tape, I peel the other side off and stick that around the head of the lure. Now the Mylar is stuck so all you have to worry about holding in place is your hair.
Ilanders, Iland Jr.'s, Trackers, Sea Stars, Mistress, Pro, Express, and maybe a couple other models can be retied. I do know that the Sailure cannot be retied. I have tried to get them apart in the past but when they tie the hair on, they insert a plastic center into the outer head and it's glued. I tried heating it up to remove it, but it just messed up the outer head.
I hope this helps and made some sense.
